If you run a club in the Ilchester area, whether it's philately, speliology, modelling, racing things, etc. and you would like an entry on this page - or even a whole page - then please let us know at houseofed@tiscali.co.uk

Ilchester Football Club

Ilchester is proud to be home to the best and finest youth football teams in Somerset. The Club has only been going for 14 years and has flourished spectacularly since making its home at the Ilchester Sports Field, which is reckoned to have some of the best pitches and facilities for miles, thanks to the Ilchester Town Trust.

Visit Ilchester Football Club's website for a complete rundown on the Club, its history, its teams and their results - and most importantly, what the Club can do for you, if you are between 6 and 16, boy or girl! (As of September 2010, their website is currently being redesigned, and the info above is missing.)

We meet each Tuesday and Friday at Ilchester Town Hall at 7.30pm.

We are a merry band of players between the ages of 13 - 80+. We take a break half way through the evening for tea/coffee and a chat. We like to take part in the Yeovil and District Short Mat Bowls winter league, but during the summer we play friendly matches with other like minded clubs and we try to take part in any local tournaments.

If you are interested please contact the secretary on 01935 841330 (answermachine).

Wessex Scout Group

Your local Scout Group consists of a Beaver Colony (Mon 5.15 -6.15pm) Cub Pack (Tues 6.30-8pm) Scout Troop (Thurs 7pm -9pm) and Explorer Unit (Wed 7 - 9pm, Great Lyde Scout Hut, Yeovil) there are around 50 boys and girls learning scouting and camping skills, among others!!

Beavers have lost both their Leaders due to family commitments, and to ensure it keeps going June Eaton will run the meetings - so please note the new times.

June also runs the Cub Pack. Elliott has joined the cub section as an assistant CubLeader, he reminded me that he helped the group at a mini camp I held, as an Explorer scout in Jun 1986!! Welcome back Elliott. Ritchie is still making sure the current Explorers are ok - but we do need someone to take over, as he also runs the scout section.

We’d like to publicly thank the Sportsfield Committee for the cheque received for our efforts at the Charity Car Boot Sale, it was much appreciated and will help in providing scouting for all our members.

Our leaders also deserve a big pat on the back for all the hard work and dedication they commit to scouting, talking of which….

We are looking for new leaders in all the sections - and would appreciate any help either uniformed or helper. CRB clearance will be required and we will help you with this - So if you would like to join in our fun call June 01935 840421.

Lendiniae Explorer unit started about three years ago and currently number 11 members with more joining over the next few months' time and accommodates the age range of 13-18 of the Scouts which previously had been called the Adventure Scouts.

Originally Explorers would only go to the district unit in Yeovil but due to the growing amount of youths which live in the outer towns and villages and the fact of the large amount of scouts at Wessex we were granted permission to run our own unit which has been very successful.

We have a more adult approach to scouting in Explorers and at 14 they can do the activities which Scouts of the lower ages can't like Scuba Diving, Snow Boarding, Motor Sports to name a few.

We run the young leaders programme and at the age of 18 a scout can then undertaken the position and training to become a leader but they would have completed module credits through the young leaders badge work. Duke of Edinburgh Awards are run in this section and we undertake Ten Tors training as well as many other awards.

We enjoy great nights out to socialise and mix with other explorers through the district network. Fun and games are had by all and bowling and skittle nights are regular events.

Street Sports is a new and exciting badge which has been introduced to give Explorers a chance to show their skills and showman ship .

Explorers are on Wednesday nights 7:00 till 9:00. Come and join us and have some real fun! For more details please contact Ritchie, details above
